The Community Health Law Project (CHLP) is a nonprofit advocacy and legal services organization dedicated to serving the needs of low-income people with disabilities in New Jersey. Their mission is to provide legal and advocacy services, training, education, and related activities to persons with disabilities and to organizations representing their interests, with an emphasis on those most vulnerable and needy.
Because clients do not pay for services, but are instead funded under contracts with sponsoring organizations, the systems to track their clients and services are very different from those used by traditional law firms. Tracking of clients, cases, attorneys, and services are therefore heavily dependent on the needs of the sponsoring organization. The current system which was migrated from legacy Clipper system now needs to be extended to more fully meet staff needs.
Strand Management Solutions was selected for the project based on experience with client systems for funded agencies and because of demonstrated expertise in the required technical areas. The system programmed in Microsoft Access and SQL Server will be upgraded to current versions and features will be added to the system. Strand will also be providing ongoing support.
Founded in 1976, CHLP has represented over 60,000 individuals on a wide range of civil matters. Its staff of over 65 operates out of regional offices in Bloomfield, Elizabeth, Trenton, Asbury Park, and Collingswood; satellite offices in Jersey City, Toms River, Mt. Holly, and Absecon; and an administration office in South Orange. Through negotiation, litigation, and advocacy, CHLP removes discrimination, protects rights, and preserves independence and quality of life.
