Case Study 1: Web Based Reporting System

The Challenge: An economic research collection and analysis firm produces quarterly statistics on 5,000 companies who operate in 300 markets. Quarterly 3,000 page reports are produced and sent to their clients. There is an opportunity for the firm to analyze and report the data across another set of parameters but a full set of reports would either increase the paper used by 50 fold or reports would be limited to two dimensions of analysis instead of three.

The Solution: A web based reporting system was developed to allow users to select their own analysis and reporting criteria across the three data dimensions. A wizard style interface eliminates the need for training. Users can subscribe to the web site in addition to receiving the hard copy reports. The firm has full control over which reporting and analysis selections users have access to so that an unlimited number of subscription levels can be marketed. The web reporting uses Microsoft .NET technology with data housed in a SQL Server database.

The Result: Online analysis and reporting is now an additional revenue source that could not have been developed using the old reporting methods. Clients receive immediate reporting making it easier for them to ask ever more complex questions. The research firm is now poised to meet client needs in an effective manner for the next ten years.
