Case Study 2: Web Based Reporting System

The Challenge: A professional sales training company provides real life training sessions to evaluate and improve the skills of the sales professionals of its clients. It provides "real-playing" encounters with actual purchasers of the products. Individuals are evaluated across both an internal ranking system and they are also evaluated based on the training evaluation criteria determined by the clients. Scores are analyzed and made available to participants for review via Excel and PowerPoint reports that are provided to the client. The sessions are also recorded on video. Other training companies with less effective programs are still able to compete because of more sophisticated web based result reporting and analysis. Our client wants to surpass his competitors' online reporting.

The Solution: Although our client had comprehensive PowerPoint and Excel reporting that could have been easily converted for web presentation we discussed the advantages of storing the data within a database. This would cost more over the short term, but it would provide for increased capabilities and greater growth potential. Several levels of user access were discussed and the outputs available to each user were reviewed. All users would be able to select the outputs to be displayed which were produced by the system at the time of the request. Canned outputs were no longer needed. The videos were also made available online and statistics on usage of the site were stored for management to review.

The Result: Our client now has the most advanced online reporting system available in his industry. The ability for all level of client users to easily access the information has increased the interaction with his clients. That has permitted our client to make additional inroads and be more responsive to his clients' needs.
